1937-2006

Laura Montag, 69, of West Bend died Monday, December 18, 2006 at her home in West Bend. Services were held (today) Thursday the 21st, 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating with burial to follow in the West Bend Cemetery. Visitation was from 4:00 to 8:00 Wednesday at the church in West Bend where a Catholic Daughters Rosary was held at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Harris Funeral Home of West Bend handled the arrangements.

Laura Ann Lemon, the daughter of Leroy and Mamie (Branch) Lemon was born June 1, 1937 in Lynchburg, VA., attended George Washington High School in Alexandria, VA and Radcliff College in Charlottesville, VA. In 1995 she was united in marriage with Mark Montag. The couple lived in Alexandria, VA for six months before moving to West Bend. During her life Laura served as clerk for the City of West Bend for thirty years and two years as Mayor of West Bend. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church and the CDA of the church. She also served on the Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic School Board, the West Bend Doctor’s Committee, the Park View Inn and Suites Committee and was a girl scout leader. In addition she was a life long member of the West Bend Chamber of Commerce where she served a term as President.

Survivors include her husband, Mark, of West Bend, children: Deb (Mark) Johnson of Milford, IA, Diane (David) Gerber of West Bend, IA, Don of West Bend, IA and Dennis (Molly) of Newell, IA, grandchildren, Matt, Sarah, Carl, Sara, Annette, Dan, Amanda, Andy, Callie and Travis, great grandchildren, Noah and Claire, a brother, John (Jill) Lemon of Edinburg, VA, brother-in-law, Marvin (Allie) Montag, West Bend, IA, sister-in-law, Maxine Laubenthal, West Bend, IA, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law and a niece.
