Dorothy Foertsch, 87
1918-2006

Dorothy Foertsch, 87, of West Bend, Iowa, died July 30, 2006, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on (today) Thursday, August 3, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. Burial will be in the West Bend Cemetery. Visitation was 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home in West Bend with a VFW Ladies Auxiliary prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and a Catholic prayer vigil at 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary.

Dorothy Agnes, daughter of Andrew and Emma (Frueh) Heinen, was born September 15, 1918, in Milo, Iowa. She was raised in Milo and attended country school there. On March 26, 1940, Dorothy was united in marriage with George L. Foertsch in Conception, Missouri, with her brother, Fr. Victor Heinen, officiating. The couple farmed all their married lives near Bradgate, Iowa, and surrounding communities before retiring to West Bend, Iowa in 1967. After moving to West Bend, Dorothy cared for the elderly in their homes and later cared for many children in her home. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend and was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Post 2541.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband George in 1977, two infant children, Agnes and John, and seven brothers and sisters. Survivors include Dorothy’s children: Mary Meyer of West Bend, George Foertsch and special friend, Julie Bates of Des Moines, Iowa; Joseph Foertsch and his wife Eva of West Warwick, Rhode Island, and Stephen Foertsch and his wife Karen of Humboldt, Iowa; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard Heinen and his wife Gladys of Madrid, Iowa; and sister Bernadine Tosseth and her husband Ed of Mandan, North Dakota.
