Emily Woodiwiss White, daughter of the late James and Mary Iler Woodiwiss, was born at Rockford, Ill., on May 23, 1863. She was 76 years of age at the time of her passing. She was the sixth of nine children born to James and Mary Iler Woodiwiss, who were married on May 18, 1845. Of the family of four daughters and five sons, only one, a brother, Frank, of Lyle, Minn., survives. The deceased was united in marriage with Edward I. White at DeSota, Wis., on May 13, 1886. The happy couple made their home, each for a short time, at Postville, Clearmont, and West Union, Iowa, before moving to Emmetsburg in the spring of 1900. They had since made their home in this city. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. White. They are Lloyd A. White, LaPorte, Ind.; Mrs. Claude Seeley, Hastings, Nebr.; and Mrs. Net Brown, West Bend, this county. They, besides her husband and one brother, Frank Woodiwiss, Lyle, Minn, survive her.
Mrs. White was regarded as one of the exemplary women of Emmetsburg. There was no sacrifice too great for her to make for the best interests and the advancement of her son and daughters. She prided herself in the home-like atmosphere she created and maintained for her family throughout all the years of her married life. Mrs. White was a woman of deep religious convictions. Her religion was likewise practical and she exercised charity towards all and was ever helpful in local religious and social affairs. She was a friendly and generous neighbor. Her ideals were high. She instilled into those under her care high standards of citizenship. She will be missed not only by her fond husband, her loving son and daughters, but also by a wide circle of friends who knew her for her genuine Christian worth.
