The Donlon Family

DONLON, STEWART, GLEASON

Father: Pete Donlon wasa wagon maker and passed away in 1913 in his early 30's.
Mother: Anna (Stewart) Donlon was born in 1867 at Stratsford, Ontario, Canada and died in 1928. She worked as a seamstress and met her husband, Pete Donlon, while she was keeping house for her brother, Jacob Stewart. Jacob had a homestead a mile west of Graetinger where Bert Masters later resided.

Pete Donlon had his "Blacksmith and Wagon Shop" building on the south end of Graettinger's Main Street and west of the railroad tracks where now stands the oil station that was run by Francis Schealler. His partner in this shop was Charlie Larson.

The Donlon family were pioneers of an Irish settlement from Braidwood, Illinois, who settled in Graettinger, Iowa and also in Ruthven, Iowa.

P.H. Donlon, who died in 1938, helped organize the first Labor Day in Graettinger and also the first St. Pat's Parade in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Tim Donlon died in 1918.
Kate Donlon died in 1923.
Annie Donlon died in 1932.
John Donlon died in 1939.
Elizabeth Donlon died in 1940.
Margaret (Donlon) Gleason died in 1960.
