Daniel and Caroline Westergard Family

Daniel Hansen Westergard was born on July 30, 1867, in Oster Lindet, Denmark. In the spring of 1880, he came to the U.S. with his parents and located in the Graettinger territory. Daniel had one brother, Hans Westergard, and two half-brothers, P.J. Paulsen and John Paulsen. He passed away very suddenly on September 27, 1930. He is buried at St. Paul Cemetery in Walnut Township.

Caroline Iverson was born on September 28, 1879, in Denmark. On March 15, 1895, Daniel and Caroline were united in marriage in Palo Alto County. Caroline died on December 13, 1940 and is buried at St. Paul Cemetery in Walnut Township.

They were the parents of two sons: Johannes Daniel Westergard, born December 11, 1896 and died on March 21, 1971, and Alfred Marinus Westergard, born on February 10, 1905 and died on July 13, 1972.

John and Alfred were born on their farm southwest of Graettinger. John was born while his parents were living in the loft of the bar because they did not yet have their house built. John was baptized at a young age and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
