Funeral services for Charles Gillespie were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Ida Roberts. Interment was made in the Essex cemetery. Charles Boyd Gillespie, son of Charles and Margaret (Palmer) Gillespie, was born Jan. 29, 1879, near Essex, Iowa and departed this life after a long illness at his home in Northboro, Iowa, April 6, 1940. In 1922, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Eva (VanFosson) Cowan and to this union were born four children: Orville, Margaret, Helen and Dorothy. Besides his wife and children, he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Gillespie of Red Oak, Iowa, Miss Mattie Gillespie and Mrs. H.L. (Nellie) McIntyre of Omaha, Nebr., a large crowd of relatives and friends from Omaha, Red Oak and Essex were present for the service.
