J. R. Lawson, a prominent and wealthy farmer and stock raiser at Shenandoah, committed suicide at noon by cutting his throat with a razor. His wife asked him what he would like for dinner and he answered cheerfully that he had no choice and bade the family go to dinner and he would shave himself. When left alone he got up and got a razor and washbowl, and setting the latter on the floor at the foot of his bed, he lay with his head hanging over the bowl and cut his throat from ear to ear. When his wife returned in a few minutes he was dead. He had been suffering for months from an incurable cancer.
