John C. Dowdell Dies Here at 74

John C, Dowdell 74, retired Creston postal clerk, died at the Greater Community hospital here at 11:50 p.m. Wednesday. He had been ill for two days.
Funeral services will be held at the Keating and Beemer funeral home here at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Rev. Donald F. Beisswenger, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Clarinda cemetery. His body will lie in state at the funeral home until time of the services. The casket will not be opened after the services.
John C. Dowdell was born at San Francisco, Calif., Jan. 31, 1886. He was the son of John and Jeanette Heninger Dowdell. He came with his parents when he was a small child and came to Creston from Clarinda in 1913.
Mr. Dowdell was a clerk at the Creston post office for 36 years until his retirement in July, 1950.
He was married at Clarinda, March 10, 1909 to Nola Harris who preceded him in death Jan. 31, 1957. He is survived by a son, Jack O. Dowdell, a clerk in the Creston post office; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Anderson and Mrs. Juanita Heimke of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Mrs Betty Mason of Mesa, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Elva Gillispie of Dallas, Tex.
Mr. Dowdell was a member of the Christian church at Clarinda.
