WALLACE PIERSON DEAD

Young Business Man of Sibley Answers Last Roll Call

It was with deep regret in this community when word went out Saturday morning that Wallace Pierson had answered the last roll call in the early hours of the morning.

While it was generally known that he had been in serious condition for several days the community at large had hoped that he might combat the dreadful disease pneumonia from which he was suffering and be restored to health. All that medical skill and nursing could do could not stay the ravages of the disease and he passed to the great beyond Saturday, November 2, 1918 at five o'clock in the morning. His death is particularly sad in that he was a young man just in his prime with good prospects ahead of him. He was a pleasant likeable fellow and had a host of friends.

He was born at Mooresville, Indiana, August 30, 1891, where he lived until coming to Sibley in 1901. Here he attended the Sibley Public Schools and graduated from the same in 1911. Among his school friends he was known as "Blub," and was one of Sibley's famous football players. After graduating he went to the State Agricultural College at Ames for one year, where he took up the course of Civil Engineering. He worked at this for five or six years in Clay County with Walter Barber.

In 1913 he was married to Harriet Steffen of Hull, who survives him. He leaves one little son, Duane, to whom he was much attached. In 1914 he came back to Sibley and went to work in the Walton Furniture Store. Plans were being made whereby he was to become a partner in the business and take over the management of the business in the near future.

The funeral service was held at the Holman Cemetery at two o'clock Monday afternoon, the Rev. W.R. Barbour, pastor of the Baptist Church, in charge, the Revs. Burnett and Parsons assisting. The male quartette, consisting of Messrs. Stamm, Hoeck, Meyers and Wheeler sang a couple of selections.

Besides his widow and son, he leaves his mother, Mrs. Harriet Reagan, two sisters, Mrs. Record and Mrs. Reichart, all of Mooresville, Ind., and a brother, Lieut. Charles H. Pierson, who is serving with the U.S. Engineers at Fort Benjamin, Harrison, Indiana.
