Mary Everson Jacobs was born at Argyle, Wis., August 11, 1854, to Matilda and Gunder Everson, and passed away March 17 at the home of her daughter, Lillian Graves, at Melvin, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 6 days.
Mary Jacobs came with her husband to Iowa in 1878 by covered wagon. The place where the town of Spencer now stands was just a mud hole. They located on a farm near Ashton and later moved to Ashton. Then about 40 years ago they movedvto Melvin. She has been a resident of Osceola county 65 years.
Mrs. Jacobs was a member of the Methodist church since June 13, 1920. In her younger days she was very active in the church and community organizations.
She was married December 25, 1875 to Albert Jacobs and to this union nine children were born: Mina, Henry, Lillian, Amy, Mable, Edward, George, Ella and Earl. She has 31 grandchildren, 87 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Those who mourn her passing are Henry Jacobs, Melvin, Lillian Graves, Melvin, Amy Graves, Ocheyedan, Edward Jacobs, Melvin, Geo. Jacobs, Worthington, Minn., Ella Dass, Iowa Falls, Earl Jacobs of Allendorf.
One sister, Lena Thompson of Bedford, S.D., four brothers, Gilbert Everson, Cresswell, Oregon, Nelson Everson, Lennox, S.D., Gunder Everson and Theodore Everson of Seattle, Wash., all her grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends also survive. She was Grandma Jacobs to everyone.
Her husband Albert and two daughters, Mrs. Mina Rieman and Mrs. Mable Lutterman, preceded her in death.
