Hans Graves whom we mentioned as being sick last week, died on Wednesday evening, March 4, at 5 o'clock, of pneumonia. On Friday evening, Feb. 28, a number of relatives gathered at Jerry Graves to spend the evening. Hans was among them, lively and social as usual. The next morning when he started to Sanborn he made the remark that he felt better than he had all winter, but came home in the evening very sick and lived only four days. He leaves a wife and eight children, all of whom are at home, the oldest being nineteen years of age and the youngest but eight months. The funeral occured on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Daumier, of Sanborn, preached the sermon in the Baker church to a large audience. The procession that went from the residence to the church consisted of sixty teams. Hans Graves was born in Germany on Sept. 17, 1844; came to America in 1870 and settled with his parents in Clinton county; in 1873 he came to this county and lived here to the time of his death. He was married in 1876 to Minnie Rhode. Deceased was an industrious and upright citizen the news of whose sudden death will be received with sorrow by his many friends and acquaintances.
