June 30, 2009Dorothy Flood, age 85 of Sibley, Iowa died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Country View Manor in Sibley.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Sibley, with Fr. John Vakulskas as celebrant.
Burial will follow in the St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery at Sibley, IA.
Dorothy Ann (Tremmel) Flood was born on August 23, 1923, near Ashton, Iowa. She grew up on a farm, during the depression. She graduated in 1941, from St. Josephs High School in Ashton. As a young woman, Dorothy worked at the Sibley bakery.
She met her husband to be, James Flood, at the Cloverdale store. They were married on April 27, 1946. They lived in Sioux City until March of 1948, when they returned to the Sibley area to farm.
Her husband Jim passed away in February of 1993.
In the early 1970s, she started working as the Food Supervisor at the Osceola Community Hospital.
Dorothy was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church where she was active in many things including the Catholic Daughters of America.
Her hobbies included golfing, bowling, reading, playing bridge, knitting, crocheting and counted cross-stitch. For several years she enjoyed attending productions at the Summer Theatre at the Iowa Great Lakes.
She also liked to travel making trips to the Black Hills, Hawaii, Branson and the Grand Canyon. Most important to her were her family, friends and her faith.
Dorothy is survived by five children: Linda (husband, Don) Carter of Sibley, IA, Karen Urness of Eden Prairie, MN, Craig (wife, Diane) Flood of Bode, IA, Stephen (wife, Erin) Flood of Lake Zurich, IL and Robert (wife, Eileen) Flood of Cedar Rapids, IA; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris (husband, Ed) Seivert of Worthington, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marjorie Reynolds; four brothers, Virgil, Bernard, Merlin and Victor Tremmel; and infant grandson, Thomas Michael Beck.
