Donald Wayne Noble was born on May 18, 1924, southwest of Ocheyedan. He was the son of Roy and Christina (Johnson) Noble. He lived in the Ocheyedan area all of his life.

He was united in marriage to JoAnn Hofmeyer of Sibley, Iowa, on December 1, 1944, in Sibley. They just celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary.

Don and JoAnn worked for farmers for several years until operating their own farm. Don then worked at the Ocheyedan Elevator for 7 years and later returned to farming.

From 1979 to 1990, Don and JoAnn owned and operated Don and Jo's Cafe and Gas Station on Highway 9. Don also mowed property for the City of Ocheyedan for 11 years.

Don was a member of the Congregational Church of Ocheyedan most of his life.

He and JoAnn enjoyed leading the Pilgrim Fellowship Youth Group. In recent years, Don was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan.

Don enjoyed his family and his friends. His home was his castle. Horses were a lifelong hobby. From the age of 12 to 70, Don rode and drove many horses and mules. In 1971, he organized the first Saddle Club in Ocheyedan, which resulted in trail rides and horse shows.

Don and Jo loved to dance, play cards, go snowmobiling, and get together with neighbors, friends and family.

Don will be remembered as a family man, with strong life values, who exhibited a quiet strength and comfort. He cared a lot about people, especially kids. He enjoyed each day God gave him.

He passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at the Sanford Worthington Hospital in Worthington, Minnesota.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife: JoAnn Noble of Ocheyedan, IA; three children and their spouses: Lonnie and Cheryl Noble of Spirit Lake, IA, LeAnn and Gary DuBois of Sioux Falls, SD, Connie and Kurt Hines of Truman, MN; grandchildren and their spouses: Dawn and Mark Kramer, Courtney and Jeremy Bolluyt, Jesse Walters, Tim DuBois, Scott and Sarah DuBois; great-grandchildren: Gavin and Lawton Kramer, Ellie Bolluyt, Harland and Tobin DuBois; one sister: Velda Joens of Lake Park, IA; two sisters-in-law: Arlene Noble of Hartley, IA, Helen and Mel Loeschen of Ocheyedan, IA.
