Age: 87 years, 2 months and 18 days

Romanas Monier, age 87, of Cloverdale, Iowa, rural Sibley, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at his home in Cloverdale.
Memorial Services will be Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Sibley.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 16 from 2:00 to 7:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

Romanas R. Monier was born on March 25, 1926 in Sibley, Iowa. He was the son of Andrew Joseph and Martha (Davids) Monier. He lived his youth 1 ½ miles east of Cloverdale, Iowa and attended a country school. Romanas went to Sibley High School for a year and then enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. He took parachute training and went overseas to the Pacific Theater where he made 32 jumps in his 18 month stay and attained the rank of Tech 4. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He was united in marriage to Velma Boernsen of Melvin, Iowa on August 4, 1946. They lived and farmed near Melvin and in 1957 they moved to Cloverdale where Romanas was a painter and in the construction business. He enjoyed building furniture, cupboards and crafts. He and Velma were very involved with the local fair board, serving as secretary and treasurer for over ten years. They enjoyed working with 4-H and the public. Velma passed away on November 19, 2009.
Romanas enjoyed living in Cloverdale and his favorite hobby was ice fishing.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sibley and the American Legion Post 324 of Sibley.
Romanas passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at his home in Cloverdale, Iowa.
Those left to cherish his memories are his three sons, Curt Monier and special friend Rhonda Howard of Ocheyedan, IA, Jim Monier of Sibley, IA, Dave and wife Linda Monier of Pella, IA; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerome "Curly" Monier of Sibley, IA; one sister, LaVonne Mitchell of Spirit Lake, IA; sister-in-law, Joyce Monier of Sibley, IA.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Velma Monier; his parents; daughter-in-law, Deborah Monier; one brother, Dayton Monier; two sisters, Normadean and husband Winnis Den Beste, Rosemary and husband Wayne Hauschild; brother-in-law, Don Mitchell; sister-in-law, Phyllis Monier.
