LOCATION: Sibley, Iowa
Wendell L. Helmers, age 82, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa.
Memorial Services will be Monday, January 14, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. Rev. Terry Simm and Rev. Brian Schafer officiating.
Burial of cremains to follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 13 from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. with the family present from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

Wendell Lee Helmers was born on March 20, 1930 in Sibley, Iowa. He was the son of Lee Henry and Hattie (Feldkamp) Helmers. He lived his youth in rural Sibley, Goewey Township, on the home place. He attended a country school in Goewey Township, one year in Sibley and graduated from Melvin High School.
He was united in marriage to Ruth Elaine Boernsen of Melvin, Iowa, on June 23, 1950. They lived and farmed in Goewey Township for four years. In 1954, they moved to their present home in rural Sibley where they farmed. Wendell farmed all of his life.
Wendell was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sibley. He was a former school board member, board member of the Allendorf Elevator and later a board member of Northwest Iowa Coop for many years.
Wendell enjoyed visiting, going to sales, and having coffee and playing cards with friends. Wendell and Ruth enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Texas and California when they were able.
Wendell loved being involved in the family, farming operation, whether it was planting, cultivating, which he especially liked, harvesting or buying and selling hogs and cattle. Family and farming was his life.
He will be remembered as a straight forward and outgoing person.
He passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 62 years: Ruth Helmers of Sibley, IA; Paul and Joan's children: Matthew and Shelly Helmers and their children, Todd, Trista, and Trever; Timothy and Jessica Helmers and their daughter, Emma; son and daughter-in-law: Mark and Denise Helmers of Allendorf, IA and their children, Benjamin and his son Kaleb; Patricia and Jeremy Wollmuth and their children, Haley, Tyler, Kylia, and Natalie; son and daughter-in-law: Jerry and Lindsey Helmers of Melvin, IA and their children, Kendall and Allison; two sisters: Shirlee and George Kruger of Sibley, IA, Ruth White of South Sioux City, NE; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Todd Helmers in infancy; son and daughter-in-law: Paul and Joan (Walker) Helmers; sister and brother-in-law: Mary L. "Liz" and Delbert "Dutch" Kruger; brother-in-law: Ken White.
