Kathleen Gontjes, age 87, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at her home in Sibley.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sibley, Iowa. Father John Vakulskas officiating.
Burial at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Sibley.
Visitation will be Monday, January 7, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. Catholic Daughters of America Rosary will be at 5:00 P.M. with Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. Family will be present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.
Kathleen Mae Gontjes was born on January 31, 1925 in Sibley, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Fox) King. She lived her youth in Sibley where she attended school and graduated from Sibley High School. She earned her Bachelors of Arts degree from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa and her Masters degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, South Dakota.
She was united in marriage to John Benjamin Gontjes of Sibley, Iowa on June 30, 1950 at St. James Catholic Church in LeMars, Iowa. They lived in Sibley where Kathleen was a teacher in the Sibley school system for 40 years. She was a secretary at Priebe's and Sons for six years. She assisted her husband at Johnny's Drive-In, from 1976 to 1991. John passed away on March 22, 1995.
Kathleen was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Sibley where she was active in the Guild when she was able. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for over 50 years.
Kathleen was a state and local life member of the National Education Association. She was past president of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, past president of Sibley Business and Professional Women, past president and director of Degree of Honor Royal Neighbors and member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed reading, crocheting, baking, and loved all animals, especially her cats. She will be remembered as a loving and giving person.
She passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at her home in Sibley.
Those left to cherish her memories are her son and daughter-in-law: Jon Kent and Mary Lynne Rose Gontjes of Peterson, IA; granddaughter: Christina Lynne and husband Aaron Kaiser and their children, Ray and Julia of Milford, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Gontjes; her parents; two sisters: Annabell Krogman and Marie Mc Elroy.
