John Anthony "Boots" Walker

John Anthony "Boots" Walker was born in Baker Township near Melvin, on February 11, 1922. He was raised by his mother, Charlena (Van Dyke) and his step-father, John Schiphoff and attended rural school near Melvin.

John was married to Arlene Mae Stratman on July 30, 1957. John's early work included working on the family farm and driving truck for Graves Construction. He started his own portable grain milling business in the 1950. He also owned and operated the Plessis Elevator between Melvin and Hartley for five years. He then worked at Eaton Corporation in Spencer.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene and two sons and families: Carson and Shannon (Ritter) Walker, Sioux Falls, S. Dak.; and Barry and Tami (Hartman) Walker, Council Bluffs; four grandchildren: Samuel, Ethan, Ellie and Sawyer Walker, Sioux Falls; a sister, Judy Peters and her husband Lawrence, Ocheyedan; a brother, Andy Schiphoff and his wife Ruth, Hartley; a sister-in-law, Vivian Walker, Melvin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Isabell Swalve, LeRoy Walker, Margaret Rode, Albert Schiphoff, Clarence Schiphoff, Peter Schiphoff and Johnny Schiphoff.
