Harry Eugene Tillotson was born on April 9, 1921, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, the son of Seth and Lulu (Taylor) Tillotson. At the age of 9, the family moved to Sibley, Iowa, where he later graduated from Sibley High School in 1939.
He was united in marriage to Imogene Violet Nelson of Sibley, in 1940. They became classmates in the 4th grade, having both moved to Sibley that same year.
Harry worked with his father who managed Priebe and Sons, a chicken processing and egg handling facility in Sibley, employing over 100 persons. Eventually, he became manager of the business. The company evolved into The Sibley Egg and Poultry Company, which Harry continued to manage. Before his retirement, he worked briefly for the then, Chase Bag Company in Sibley.
Harry served in the Army during World War II. He was a guard on the Lakes Conference Championship Basketball Team in Sibley in 1939,and was first team all conference. He was a masterful bridge player and enjoyed all card games. Harry was an avid golfer, having three holes-in-one to his credit.
Perhaps his most gifted talent was his baritone singing voice. As an eighth grader, a judge in a regional contest in Minneapolis told him he had the most beautiful baritone voice she had ever heard, saying, "I hope you make good use of it." Harry did! He sang for countless weddings and funerals, at many summer band concerts in the Sibley Park, and was a member of the church choir for over 60 years.
He served as president of the Sibley School Board, was on the Hospital Board, was a member of the American Legion, a Rotarian, was an active member of the United Methodist Church, serving on many boards and committees. In his later years, when sight and hearing diminished, he followed the Twins, the Hawkeyes, and the Cyclones, on radio and television.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 69 years: Imogene Tillotson of Sibley, IA; five children: Nancy (Steve) Pohlman of Dakota Dunes, SD, Tim (Jan) Tillotson of St. Augustine, FL, Becky (Craig) Ness of Kuwait City, Kuwait, Joyce (Steve) Voss of Sibley, IA, Julie Tillotson of Minneapolis, MN; daughter-in-law: Renee Tillotson of Fairmont, MN; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Todd Tillotson; a half brother: Cliff Duckett; and an infant great-grandson.
