Memorial Tribute
Wilbur “Bill” Jacob Brandt, the son of John and Elsie (Schuster) Brandt, was born on November 8, 1922 at his parents’ farm near Melvin, Iowa. He attended the Melvin Public School until 1934 when the family moved to a farm near Ocheyedan. He then attended Baker School No. 1.
In 1937 Bill moved back to the home place near Melvin where he spent several years working at home.
On August 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to Ruth Jacobs at Compton, California. The couple spent most of their married life living in northwest Iowa. Besides farming, Bill performed odd jobs for others for many years. He was also involved in trucking, hauling both livestock and gravel.
He enjoyed woodworking, traveling and visiting with friends. He was baptized and confirmed in the American Lutheran Church. He and Ruth attended the Dover Avenue Alliance Church in Orange City, Iowa. He passed away at the Orange City Health Center on July 21, 2009 at the age of 86.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Arnold “Bud”, Lloyd, Arlin, and John Jr.; and two sisters, Margaret and Betty.
He is survived by his wife Ruth; one brother Harold Brandt and his wife Francine; three sisters: Dorothy and her husband Wallace Tesch, Agnes Krager and Lois Luton; three sisters-in-law: Kathryn Brandt, Deltha Brandt, and Illene Brandt; his many nieces and nephews.
