Lavonne Jean Engel was born on October 2, 1927 in Sibley, IA, the daughter of Floyd and Mary (Schwarzkopf) Plum. She attended school in Allendorf and later graduated from Sibley High School in 1945. On April 6, 1953, Lavonne was united in marriage to Harold Engel in LeMars, IA. The couple farmed near Ocheyedan, IA and on November 2, 1977, Harold passed away. She worked several places throughout her life, such as Deibner Drug Store, for Dr. Bosch and Dr. Carroll as a nurse and Country View Manor. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America; and the American Legion Auxiliary in Ocheyedan. All of Lavonne’s family and friend will remember her as a caring, loving, honest and a community involved woman. She always loved her children’s Sunday visits to the farm and holiday get-togethers in Sioux City. Her children loved staying overnight on the farm, so they could sleep in their “own” rooms they slept in when they were growing up. Lavonne was always proud of her children even when they gave her a few gray hairs! Lavonne and her husband Harold instilled in the children, character, honesty, integrity and most importantly, a sense of humor. Lavonne will be sorely missed but has left many with a lifetime of memories. She leaves her children with “No Regrets”.

Left to cherish her memory are her seven children, Rhonda Capron of Sioux City, IA, Eugene (Becky) Engel of Denison, IA, Mark (Lulu) Engel of Ocheyedan, IA, Colleen Byrne of Sioux City, IA and special friend, Duane Lilly, Mary Armstrong of Sioux City, IA, Pat Engel of Ocheyedan, IA and Mike (Jamie) Engel of Lake Park, IA; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary (Merlin) Stanton of Sibley, IA; special cousin, Virginia Larsen of Sibley, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, June Janssen; and two brothers, David and Donald Plum.
