Ruth Riessen, 94

Ruth Lucile (Hobson) Riessen, the daughter of Rev. Claude and Lenna (Van Gundy) Hobson, was born at Newburg on November 4, 1911. She graduated from high school in Des Moines and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Grinnell College in 1935. After graduating, she taught school in Anthon for three years.

Ruth married Reinhard Riessen on May 29, 1938. They moved to a farm northwest of Hartley in 1941.

Ruth served as her church organist for many years as her church organist for many years as well as teaching Sunday school. She also served as chairman of the ALCW LeMars Conference and the Spencer Conference. Ruth held many offices in Women's Farm Bureau. Ruth was also active in the Republican Party. Governor Ray appointed her to serve on a committee to study education in Iowa.

Survivors include: Rudolf (Betty) and Reinhard (Barbara); her grandchildren; Julie Boudreaux, Sherri Crepinsek, Lori Webster, Gretchen Washburn and Erik Riessen; great-grandchildren; Emily and John Boudreaux, Chloe Crepinsek, Sophia and Gavin Webster, Cecilia, Thomas, Anastasia, Petrus, Aloisius and Ambrose Washburn and Reinhard Alexander Riessen.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; brothers, Lyman and Robert Hobson and sisters; Naomi Haynes and Violet Greiner.
