Janet Engeman, age 76 of Sibley, IA died Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, IA.

Memorial service will be 11:30AM, Monday, November 1st at the United Church of Christ in Sibley, IA, with Rev. Larry Laskie officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 31st from 4:00 to 6:00PM at the United Church of Christ in Sibley.

Janet Marie Billings was born on February 19, 1934 in Franklin, Minnesota, the daughter of Dr. R. E. and Hazel (Mortensen) Billings. She was raised in Franklin and attended Franklin Community Schools, graduating in 1952. She continued her education receiving her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1957 from the University of Minnesota.

Janet was united in marriage to Thomas M. Engeman on October 28, 1961 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Franklin, MN. Together they lived in Minneapolis, MN until moving in 1963 to Syracuse, New York. They lived in Connecticut, Lincoln, NE, Brookings, SD and Vermillion, SD. In 1976 the couple moved Sibley, IA. Throughout these years she worked as a nurse, most recently, at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was a member of The United Church of Christ in Sibley, active member of P.E.O. and volunteer with Family Crisis Center of N.W. Iowa. She will be remembered as a kind, loving woman.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Thomas M. Engeman of Sibley, IA; son Ross E. (wife, Sara) Engeman of Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Grant, Amanda and Everett Engeman; sister, Dorie (husband, Ron) VanVactor of Raleigh, NC; and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Ralph and Hazel Billings; and sister, Marcia Noulles.

It was Janet’s wish to have her earthly body donated to the University of South Dakota Medical School in Vermillian, SD.

Memorials can be directed to the Osceola County Hospice and Family Crisis Center of N.W. Iowa, or donor’s choice.
