Gerrit De Boer, age 85, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 13, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley. Rev. Douglas Harding officiating.

Burial in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 12, 2009, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

Gerrit J. De Boer was born on January 2, 1924, in Hull, Iowa. He was the son of John and Julia (Draaym) De Boer. He lived his youth and attended school in Hull. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and attained the rank of Master Sergeant.

He was united in marriage to Betty J. Miller of Rock Valley, Iowa, on December 17, 1951, in Rock Valley. They lived and farmed near Hull, Iowa, until 1954, when they moved to Sibley, Iowa, where Gerrit farmed until 1972.

Betty passed away on September 29, 1996. Gerrit worked for Chase Bag Company for 17 years, until he retired, and later worked for the City of Sibley, doing mowing.

Gerrit enjoyed traveling, going out for coffee with friends, visiting, and playing Bingo. He was a congenial, hardworking, busy man, who never complained.He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sibley.

He passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.

Those left to cherish his memories are his children: Vicki L. De Boer of Rochester, MN, Gary L. De Boer of Sibley, IA, Randy J. De Boer of Las Vegas, NV, Lori A. De Boer of Sibley, IA; one granddaughter: Wendy and husband Thad Kneebone of Denver, CO; two great-grandchildren: Tanner and Brody Kneebone.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; his parents; one brother; one sister; one great-granddaughter.
