Julia Hofkamp, age 100, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Sibley Nursing and Rehab in Sibley.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 19, 2009, at 1:30 P.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sibley. Rev. Gary Van Heukelom officiating.

Burial in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

Visitation will be Thursday, prior to the Funeral Service, with the family present from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sibley.

Julia Louise Hofkamp was born on July 10, 1909 in Hull, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Louise (De Boer) Smit. She lived her youth and attended school in Hull, where she graduated from high school.

She was united in marriage to Gerrit Hofkamp of Lismore, Minnesota, on November 10, 1939, at the American Reformed Church in Hull, Iowa. They lived in Sibley, Iowa. Gerrit passed away on October 29, 1999.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley.Julia was a devoted wife and mother. She loved hosting Sunday dinners after church; there was always enough room for everyone, around the table. She loved doing arts and crafts with her grandchildren, taking pictures with her Brownie camera, camping in the summers, and spending time at the lakes with her friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, needlework, and vegetable and flower gardening, when she was able.

It was very important for Julia to have devotions throughout each day and to be close to her Lord. When life was hard for her, she did not complain, and put her trust in the Lord.

She passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at the Sibley Nursing and Rehab in Sibley.

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter-in-law: Jennie Hofkamp of Phoenix, AZ; two granddaughters: Lisa and husband Kevin Wolf of Phoenix, AZ, Suzie and husband John Sindt of Everly, IA; five great-grandchildren: Braxton, Jakob and Hailey Wolf, Allister and Amanda Sindt; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerrit; son, Dale (1/25/97); her parents; three brothers: Walter, August and Dowie.
