Velma Monier, age 82, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2009, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.

Memorial Services will be Monday, November 23, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Sibley. Rev. Douglas Harding officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 22, 2009, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

Velma Arlene Monier was born on September 25, 1927, in Melvin, Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry and Lena (Habben) Boernsen. She lived her youth in Melvin, Iowa, where she attended school and graduated from high school.

She was united in marriage to Romanas Monier of Sibley, Iowa, on August 4, 1946, in Melvin, Iowa. They lived and farmed near Melvin and moved to Cloverdale, Iowa, in 1957, where Romanas was a contractor.

Velma was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sibley, for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women. Her church activities were a big part of her life when she was able to participate.

She also was a member of the Osceola County Fair Board, Cloverdale Park Board, the Osceola Community Hospital Auxiliary, and the Merry 7 Club (A Very Merry Bunch).

Velma was a firm, but very loving and giving person, who never complained. She was always putting her family and friends first. She loved to cook and bake, especially wafer cookies. Family gatherings were a must for her and everyone had to be there. Christmas was the biggest holiday for her and she made sure she treated each of her children fairly.

She passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2009, at the Country View Manor in Sibley.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 63 years: Romanas Monier of Sibley, Iowa; her three sons: Curt Monier and special friend Rhonda Howard of Ocheyedan, IA, James “Jim” Monier and special friend Renae Wolter of Sibley, IA, Dave and wife Linda Monier of Pella, IA; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ruthie and husband Wendell Helmers of Sibley, IA, Sharlene and husband Don Leith of Afton, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one daughter-in-law, Deborah Monier.
