Robert William “Bob” Bryant 1925-2004

Robert William Bryant was born to Carroll and Lillian (Andrie) Bryant at Hartley, Iowa on May 14, 1925. He grew up in the Hartley area attending Hartley High School.

He enlisted in the Army in January of 1944 at the age of 18. He landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy and was wounded in action in September of 1944. He was awarded the Bronze Star. After 5 and 1/2 months in a hospital in England, he attended a clerk/typist school in England and worked at Headquarters near Paris, France until his discharge in January 1946.

On June 9, Bob married Delores McCarty at Hartley, Iowa and 5 children Bill, Linda, Bonnie, Dee Ann and Roger were born to this union.

Bob operated the Standard Station in Primghar, worked for Sanborn Municipal Utilities and after 43 years with the U.S. Postal Service, he retired in Arnolds Park, where he could enjoy his great love of fishing.

Robert died September 17, 2004 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital at the age of 79.

Bob was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church, the Postal Union and a lifetime member of the VFW.

Left to cherish his memory was his wife Delores, his 5 children and spouses, 16 grand-children and 5 great grand-children. Survivors also include one brother, Bill Bryant and his wife.
