Duane Heerde, age 68, of Archer, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015 in Sheldon. Funeral Services will be Friday, April 17, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the Archer Reformed Church in Archer, Iowa. Rev. Jeremy Wiersema officiating. Burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, April 16, from 1:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Duane Heerde was born on April 30, 1946 in Terril, Iowa. He was the first born son of Arthur and Dorothy (Winterboer) Heerde. Duane lived his youth in Archer, Iowa where he attended Archer Consolidated School. He graduated from Sheldon High School in 1964. Following graduation, Duane worked for James Snip with his farming operation. He was united in marriage to Joanne Van Dyke of Archer, Iowa on May 31, 1975. They lived on an acreage southwest of Archer. Duane farmed in the Archer and Primghar areas and had a corn shelling business with Wayne Van Roekel for many years. In 1986 they moved to Archer. Duane worked at Archer Coop Grain as an outside foreman applying chemicals on many fields in the area. His love of the land kept him from retiring and in 2013 he retired from full time work. He continued to help in the spring and fall looking forward to going back this spring. Duane was a member of the United Methodist Church in Archer. He served many roles in the church and always enjoyed being a youth leader. He served on the Archer City Council, later becoming the mayor of Archer. He was an active member of the Archer fire department. In younger years he was on a bowling league and was 1st baseman on the Archer Eagles softball team. Duane enjoyed traveling with his family, especially the yearly Bass Lake fishing trips. In later years, he enjoyed fishing, boating and being at the lake home with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his best friend, Mya, his chocolate lab. He passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015 in Sheldon due to cancer. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Jo; daughter Alecia (Mike) Anderson and children Amanda and Brayden of Sioux City, IA; son Alex (Ashley) Heerde of Cadott, WI; brother Gary (Marlene) Heerde of Sheldon, IA; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers Don and an infant.
