Services held for Signa M. Hartong

Funeral services for Signa M. Hartong were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 17,1994, at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home at Paullina, Iowa, with Rev. Beryl Hicks officiating. Interment was at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa, under the care of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Paullina.

OBITUARY

Signa Marie Hartong, the daughter of Soren C. and Maria P. Junkers Petersen, was born November 4, 1892, in Audubon, Iowa. She received her education in Audubon Country schools. On March 9, 1910, she was united in marriage to David Hartong in Arthur, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple settled in Ida Grove, Iowa, until moving to O'Brien County in 1926. The couple farmed in O'Brien County for many years. Her husband preceded her in death in August of 1963 at the family home. She had made her home in Paullina before several years ago moving to the Primghar Care Center. She passed away at the Care Center on Monday, November 14, 1994, reaching the age of 102 years and 10 days.

She attended the Gaza Community Church and was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Signa is survived by her children: Marvin and his wife, Hazel Hartong of Primghar and Lois Tjossem of Primghar; a son-in-law, Joseph Schneider of Hillsboro, Illinois; nine grandchildren: Jean Rath, Marilyn Gross, Jolene Franken, Steven Hartong, Michael Hartong, Daniel Hartong, Jay Hartong, Trace Tjossem and Jeff Tjossem and their spouses; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Florence Petersen of Ida Grove; and nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters, Viola Marie Schneider and Gladys Dorothy Hartong, who died in infancy; a son-in-law, Glenn Tjossem; parents; two brothers, Peter and Pero and one sister, Christine.
