1870-Rudolph Rohwer-1965

Rudolph Henry Rohwer, last surviving child of a family of nine children of Jurgen and Dorothea Rohwer, was born December 19, 1870, near Gladbrook, Iowa, and died at Paullina, Iowa, on January 5, 1965 at the age of 94 years and 17 days.

He came with his parents to O'Brien County in 1883 and lived on a farm four miles east of Paullina through young manhood. In 1893 he went to Rushmore, Minnesota, and started farming on virgin prairie.

On February 16, 1897 he was married to Anna Juliana Appeldorn. They made their home at Rushmore until 1900 when they came back to Paullina and farmed south and west of town.

In 1905 they purchased a farm 2 miles north of Paullna, which was the family home until 1922. In 1922 they built a house in Paullina, which excecpt for a five year retur to the farm from 934 to 939, has been their home ever since.

He united with the First Presbyterian Church of Paullina in 1908 and served as Ruling Elder on the Session of that church. He served several years as a Director of the Board of The Farmers' Elevator. Had he lived a few days longer, he would have been a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Nora (Mrs. Edmund L. Morousek) of Des Moines, Iowa; and two sons, Burdette of Grand Junction, Colorado and Robert of Paullina; 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. A daughter, Ruby (Mrs. Melvin Fagerness) and a grandson, Floyd Fagerness, preceded him in death.

The funeral service was held in the First Presbyterian Church of Paullin on Friday, January 8, 1965, with the Rev. J. Paul Boaz officiating.

Interment was in Prairie View Cemetery.
