Joyce M. Tjossem-Lyle, who had lived in Windom, MN many years passed away Sunday, April 6 2014 at Gracewood Assisted Living, North Branch, MN at the age of 92. She had been in declining health, also suffered from dementia for several years, and had been a resident there since November 2012.

Joyce was born on July 13, 1921 in Lakeside Township, Cottonwood County, MN to Alonzo and Mayme Manee. She graduated from Windom High School in the class of 1939.

She married George Tjossem on March 7, 1942. After their marriage they spent time in Virginia while George was in the Coast Guard. In 1945 they had a son who died at birth, and in 1947 they had another son, James. When James was several months old, George chose to leave the marriage. During this difficult time, Joyce was most grateful for the much needed support she received from her family.

In 1953, Joyce accepted a job offer in Connecticut where she was employed as a housekeeper for Johnny and Penny Olson who were well known for their radio and television work. She worked for them four years and enjoyed having employment that allowed her to have her young son with her at work. In 1957 she returned to Windom, MN where she lived with her ageing mother and was able care for her when her health declined.

Joyce loved the Lord and knew him as her Personal Savior. She was a prayer warrior for her family, church and many others. She was a member of the Assemblies of God Church in Windom, MN where she was very active until her declining health. She enjoyed music and sang many solos, taught Sunday School, was involved with Women’s Ministry, and took care of the church books for many years. Joyce enjoyed family activities, cooking, baking, ceramics as well as decorating her home. She also had the gift of hospitality and entertained many in her home. If a visiting missionary or special speaker needed a place to stay, her door was always open.

Joyce was also employed as a telephone operator in Windom for 24 years when the office closed causing her to retire in December of 1981. She later married Howard Lyle, on April 14, 1984. He was a family friend whose first wife had passed away. Joyce and Howard spent over twenty years together before Howard passed away.

Joyce is survived by her son, Jim (Marge) Tjossem of North Branch; her two granddaughters, Jennifer Tjossem and Michelle (Christopher) Kennedy both of Thompsons Station, TN and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son, eight sisters, one brother, both husbands and her parents.
