E.R. "Shorty" Rohwer

Memorial services for E.R. "Shorty" Rohwer, 76, Butterfield, were held Friday, March 16, in the First Presbyterian Church, Saint James, the Reverends James Baldwin and Jerry White officiating. Interment was in Butterfield Cemetery.

Mr. Rohwer passed away Tuesday, March 13, at Watonwan Memorial Hospital, St. James.

He was born in O'Brien County, Iowa on October 22, 1907, the son of Ben and Mary (Appeldorn) Rohwer, and graduated from Paullina (Iowa) High School in 1926.

After high school graduation, he was employed by the Farmers Elevator, Paullina.

On December 17, 1932, he married Neva Miles in Dakota City, Nebraska.

In 1938 they moved to Westbrook, where he managed the Farmers Elevator.

in 1945, they moved to Butterfield, and purchased the elevator, owning and operating it until his retirement in 1971.

In retirement, he operated a saw sharpening shop.

He had been a member of the Butterfield Village Council, and the Butterfield School Board, and had served as treasurer of the Masonic Lodge and Zuhrah Shrine.

Mrs. Rohwer passed away in 1981.

On November 6, 1982, he married Hazel Neuman, St James and they made their home in Butterfield.

Survivors include his widow, Hazel, Butterfield; two grandchildren, Bryan Rohwer and Deanna Strenge, three step-daughters, Nancy, Kathy, and Prudy; two sisters, Mrs. F.F. (Elsie) Agee, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ivan (Amanda) Severance, San Jose, California; two brothers, George Rohwer, Denver, Colorado, and Henry Rohwer, Paullina, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, first wife, one son, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
