A memorial service was held in Kansas City the 16th for Reva Griffith, eldest daughter of Arthur and Lydia Standing and cousin of Beth Wilson.

Reva P. Griffith, 77, of Gladstone, MO, passed away November 5, 2003, at St. Luke's Hospital. Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, November 15, at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, 4501 Walnut St., Kansas City, MO.

Reva was a lifelong member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker). For over 30 years she had been a member of Penn Valley Meeting in Kansas City, MO. She had held many positions in the Society of Friends, including clerk of the Ames Friends Meetings (Ames, IA) and Penn Valley Meeting in Kansas City. For many years and until recently, she was Editor of "The Friendly Connection" a newsletter published by the Penn Valley Meeting.

Reva authored two books. One about her father's experiences as a conscientious objector during World War I-"One Man's Story." A second book in honor of her eldest son, Christopher, who was a victim of murder-"This Song's For You." She was also a poet and had poems published in various Friends Journals and Women's publications.

Reva was Assistant Director of Planned Parenthood of Kansas City at the time of her retirement. Following her retirement and the violent death of her oldest child, Reva joined the Western Missouri Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and had been active with that organization as a board member and as a writer and speaker opposing the death penalty.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, John; sons, Tim and wife, Cheri, Jon and wife, Jeri, Ben and wife, Patricia; grandchildren, Jason, Alison, Treva, Carrie, Jordan and Stephanie; and one great-grandson, Jason.

Reva's strong Quaker beliefs defined her life and actions. She will be missed.
