Services in memory of Elsie Hoper were held Monday, July 5, 1993, at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley. Rev. John Schauer officiated. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elsie Mathilda Hoper, daughter of Henry and Gesena Eden Philiph, was born February 17, 1904 in Harrison Township, Osceola County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in that area and it was there that she received her early education.

Elsie married Adolf Hoper on February 22, 1922, in Hartley. The early years of their marriage were spent on a farm north of Hartley where they lived for 26 years. In 1948, they moved into Hartley, where she has since made her home.

Mrs. Hoper was a long time member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church. She was active in the Auxiliary and the Ladies Aid, having been a member for nearly seventy years.

Mrs. Hoper passed away at the Hartley Health Center on June 30, 1993, at the age of 89.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on August 5, 1972; four brothers: Herman, Robert, Edwin and Victor Philiph; and an infant grandson.
