Nelda Clara (Wacker) Philiph (1900-2002)

Funeral services in memory of Nelda Clara Philiph were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2002, at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, Iowa. Pastor Dave Ericksen officiated. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Nelda Clara Philiph, the daughter of William R. and Helen M. Bohnhoff Wacker was born February 13, 1900, in Wilton, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Sanborn, Iowa, where she attended country schools and later graduated from Sanborn High School. Following high school, she attended a normal school in Sheldon and later taught country schools near Melvin, Iowa, in Baker Township.

Nelda was united in marriage to Edwin Albert John Philiph on December 26, 1923, in Hartley, Iowa. They farmed near Melvin until their retirement in 1966, when the moved into the town of Hartley. She was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley where she was very active within several offices in the church. She loved gardening, crocheting, knitting, quilting, and playing pinochle with her friends.

Mrs. Philiph passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center on Thursday, October 10, 2002, at the age of 102. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, in 1978; one son, Duane; an infant son, Donald; three brothers: Raymond, Carl, and Wilbur Wacker; and one sister, Ada Henline.

She is survived by one son, Eugene and his wife, Corrine of Sibley, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Donna Philiph of Alta, Iowa; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends.
