Funeral services for Lena Lago were held Thursday, February 5, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at Gaudian-Eldridge funeral Home in Primghar with Rev. Bruce Branson officiating.

"Amazing Grace" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" were sung by the congregation. Organist was Sandy DuBay.

Casket bearers were Nathan Weathers, Jim Jalas, Bob McCauley, Bob Bruett, Kedric Wunder and Albert Heimers.

Final resting place was Highland Township Cemetery near Gaza.

Lena Maude Lago was born October 29, 1897 near Gaza, Iowa. She was the daughter of August and Lena Steinblock Mau. Her mother passed away at her birth and she was adopted by Paul and Elizabeth Butterfield Lago. She received her education in country school in the Gaza area. She went on to attend the Lutheran School of Nursing Sioux City graduating in 1929. After her graduation she was employed at St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City. She moved to Casper, Wyoming where she was a photographer until moving back to Sioux City to work at Younkers Department Store. In 1956 she returned to Gaza to live with her family, They moved into Primghar in 1972. In 1989 she entered the Primghar Care Center. She passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 1998, at the Care Center reaching the age of 100 years, 3 months and 4 days.

She was a member of the Congregational Church in Gaza.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents and her adopted parents; two bothers Herman and Rufus; three sisters, Marie, Katie and Alvina; her adopted family, three sisters, Lydia, Rosetta, and Emma; three brothers, Charles, Arthur and her twin, Leon (Jeff).
