Funeral services for Leon C. (Jeff) Lago, 85, of Lake Park, were held Wednesday, March 30, 1983, at the United Methodist Church in Montgomery, with Rev. Leslie Calhoun and Rev. Robert Phillips officiating. Lago died Sunday, March 27, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Sunny Fronk, organist, accompanied the congregation as the sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Nearer my God to Thee." Pallbearers were Terry Bruett, Dennis Johnson, Gary Lago, Dale Sixta, and Keith Wunder. Interment was in the Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park.

Leon C. (Jeff) Lago was born Oct. 29, 1897 in Gaza, Ia., to Paul and Elizabeth Lago. He resided in Gaza, Ia. and Pukwana, Ocheyedan and Lake Park. Lago farmed until moving into Lake Park in 1947. He was the owner of the Cities Service station and tank wagon in Montgomery, retiring in 1965. Lago was a member of the United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Ia.

Survivors include his children: Mrs. Lars (Irene) Waage of Round Lake, Minn., Don of Spirit Lake, Wayne of Salem, Ore., Lowell of Shakopee Minn., Mrs. Harvey (Lois) Johnson of Lake Par, Ia., Mrs. Kedric (Joanne) Wunder of Lake Park, and Mrs. Bob (Arlis) Bruett of Spirit Lake, sisters, Lena Lago of Primghar , Ia., and Katie Koch of Denison, Ia,; nine grandchildren ; and twenty three great grandchildren.

Lago was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel; infant daughter; grandson, two sisters; four brothers; and his parents.

The Leyson Funeral Home in Lake Park was in charge of arrangements.

NOTE: His biological parents were Lena Steinblock Mau, and August Mau, and his twin sister was Lena M. Lago. They were raised by the Lago's after his mother died after giving birth to them.
