John C. Linder, the sone of Lewis and Dora Gonnerman [sic Gundermann] Linder, was born January 20, 1889, at Dysart, in Benton County, Iowa. At the age of four, he came to Hartley with his parents, where he lived, except for a brief time in Chicago, Illinois, until his death on October 17, 1968, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 28 days.

On October 1, 1912, he was united in marriage to Laura P. Brown. They moved to a farm north of Hartley where they resided until retirement in the spring on 1947. Three sons were born to this union.

John was a member of the United Methodist Church, and a longtime member of the choir. He loved music, and sang in several minstrel shows and quartets in his earlier years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, three brother: Henry, Fran, and Ray; and two sisters: Nelda and Anna.

Left to cherish his memory are his three sons: Merritt and Robert of Hartley, and Lee of Fremont, Nebraska, three daughters-in-law, four grandchildren, one brother, Charles, of Independence, Iowa, two sisters: Mary Fenner of Oelwein, Iowa, and Sarah Vincent of Independence, Iowa, other relatives and his many friends.

Services were held from the United Methodist Church, Hartley, Iowa, on Monday, October 21. Reverend Keith Scott officiated. He is at rest in Pleasant View Cemetery, Hartley, Iowa. Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
