Services held for Lee A. Puhrmann

Funeral services for Lee A Puhrmann were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2000, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Iowa, with Rev. Karl Eckhoff officiating. "How Great Thou Art" was sung by Rev. Karl Eckhoff, "The Lord's Prayer" was sung by Angela Johannsen and "I'm But a Stranger Here" and "Amazing Grace" were sung by the congregation. The organist was Judy Eckhoff.

The casket bearers were Leon Puhrmann, Robert Puhrmann, Paul Miller, Miles Puhrmann, Rolin Muhs and Larry Puhrmann.

Interment was at [West] Prairie View Cemetery at Paullina, Iowa, under the direction of the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home.

OBITUARY

Lee Albert Puhrmann was born July 26, 1922, in Baker Township northwest of Paullina, Iowa, the son of George and Emma Beerman [Beermann] Puhrmann. He attended country school at Baker No. 7 for four years and then Zion Lutheran School in Paullina through the eighth grade. He began farming in the Paullina area in 1942.

On August 15, 1954, he was united in marriage to Audrey DeKruif in Paullina. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Paullina area until 1985. He helped his son Terry with carpenter work, worked for Paullina Grain for a time and also worked with his son, Lonnie, at the Busse Feedlot in rural Cherokee.

He passed away on Monday, October 30, 2000, at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, reaching the age of 78 years, 3 months and 4 days.

He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith on August 13, 1922, and later confirmed on May 23, 1937, all at the Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina where he has been a lifelong member. He was active in his church serving as an Elder and Trustee. He was an avid bowler for many years.

Lee is survived by his wife, Audrey of Paullina; son, Lonnie and his wife, Jolene Puhrmann of rural Cherokee; daughter, Lisa and her husband David Werkmeister of Clive, Iowa; son, Todd Puhrmann of El Paso, Texas; and daughter, Angela and her husband, Randy Johannsen of Paullina; seven grandchildren Mindy, Mandy, Melanie and Drew Puhrmann, Derek and Tara Werkmeister and Ross Johannsen; four brothers: Bentley, Ray, Martin and Ralph Puhrmann, all of Paullina; and four sisters: Elsie Miller, Emily Meyer and June Miller, all of Paullina, and Ruth Berhow of Austin, Minnesota; also a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Terry; parents; one brother, George; and one sister, Gladys.
