HARTWIG MEYER

Hartwig Meyer was born Dec. 17, 1856, In the province of Hanover, Germany, in a village called Schorffwedel. In 1873, at the age of 17, he came to America, locating first in Cooper's Grove, Cook county, Illinois, Nine years later, In 1882, he came to Germantown and lived there till 1913, when he retired from active farm life and moved into town Paullina.

June 3, 1883 he was married to Miss Sophia Strampe of Germantown. About two years ago they were permitted to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Six children were born to this union, one dying in early Infancy Two sons and three daughters survive, also twelve grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Their names follow, Otto Meyer of Germantown, Adolf Meyer of Hartley, Mrs. R. B. Knuth of Germantown, Mrs. Fred Boesche of Germantown and Miss Ella Meyer of Sioux City.

Mr. Meyer spent the winter with his wife and daughter In Sioux City They had returned Sunday, March 17, and were happy to be once more in their own home. Mr. Meyer took a walk to town on Monday afternoon to attend to some necessary business. In the Meat Market of the Knuth boys he was suddenly struck with heart failure and could not return home. His sudden demise was a shock to all who heard about it.

The funeral service was conducted from Zion Lutheran church in Paullina, where the Meyers have been members for 22 years. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery at Germantown. A large concourse of mourners followed the remains to their last resting place.

Out of town relatives to attend the last rites Thursday for the late Mr. Hartwlg Meyer were Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Meyer and family of Hartley. Miss Ella Meyer and M. J Gephart of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Mund, Mr. Ernest Gehris and Mrs. Louis Kruse of Okabena, Minn., and Mr. Will Warnke of Lake Park, la., and Mr. and Mrs. Julius Brehmer of Hartley, Ia.
