1887 - Andrew Hilbert - 1949

Andrew Hilbert was born the youngest son of Jacob and Dora Hilbert on a farm near Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, on January 16, 1887.

In the spring of 1880, the family moved to a farm near Sutherland. In the spring of 1900, the family moved to Sutherland, where Mr. Hilbert finished his schooling and later went into the contracting business with James P. Martin for a number of years. In 1908, he went to Spencer, South Dakota, where he manufactured cement blocks, built homes, etc., for some time. He later sold out and returned to Sutherland, where he started and sold a number of business places. In the spring of 1914, he connected with the Frank Klema Motor Company, and later, the Hilbert-Peters Motor Company.

Mr. Hilbert was territorial manager for Monumental Sales and Manufacturing Company of Saint Cloud, Minnesota for the last twenty years, at which he was still serving at the time of his passing.

He married Mattie Arends [sic Matie Ahrens] November 2, 1910. She passed away in 1931.

To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Viola Strampe, with whom he has made his home, moving to Sioux City in 1945.

Mr. Hilbert passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City after several weeks of illness, on June 12, 1949, at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 26 days.

Survivors besides Mrs. Strampe include his son-in-law, D.N. Strampe, one grandson, Rodney, two brothers, Chris of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; Jack of Hartley; two sisters, Mrs. Dora Hilker of Paullina, and Mrs. Bertha Lehann of Long Beach, California, other relatives and many friends.
