Funeral services were conducted for Clara Nonneman at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley on Friday morning, February 25. Rev. Bernard Sayler officiated. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley with the Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge.

Clara Ida Nonneman, the daughter of Henry and Amanda Klatt Pohlman, was born at Melvin, Illinois on December 25, 1889. She came with her parents to the Melvin, Iowa, area as a young girl. She attended Goewey Township School and then graduated from Westman College in LeMars, Iowa. She taught school for several years in the Melvin vicinity.

She was united in marriage at Melvin to Albert F. Nonneman on September 15, 1920. They farmed near Hartley and had lived in town since 1935. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Hartley and its Dorcas Society. She was also a member of the Busy Bee Club.

She had been in failing health for some time and passed away at the Hartley Hospital on February 22, 1977 at the age of 87. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband in 1965; one son, Floyd, and one daughter, Lois, as well as four brothers and one sister.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Mrs. Elsie Jones of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Mrs. Neola Hoellwarth of Sutherland, and her sons, Marvin of Fort Wayne and E.F. Nonneman of Van Wert, Ohio; sixteen grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter as well as four brothers, Arthur Pohlman of Wenatchee, Washington, Harold of Laurens, Arnold of East Lost Angeles, California, and Edgar of Melvin; four sisters, Mrs. Rose Bagby of Sioux City, Mrs. A.L. (Ielsie) Sharbondy of Sibley, Mrs. George (Hilda) Schultz of Melvin, and Mrs. Irma Smith of Lynwood, California, as well as many other relatives and friends.
