Charles Boone (1911-2011)

Charles Boone, the son of Gerrit and Phoebe (Veenstra) Boone, was born on October 31, 1911 near Middleburg, Iowa. He grew up on the farm and attended country school and the Middleburg Christian School.

At the age of sixteen, Chuck moved to Sanborn, Iowa. It was there that he met his bride, Jeanette Andringa. They were married on December 10, 1936 at her parents' home in Sanborn.

Together they owned and operated the Phillips 66 station in Sanborn for twenty-five years. Chuck was drafted into the US Army on April 11, 1944. He served in the infantry division, stationed in Italy, until his honorable discharge on February 5, 1946.

They were blessed with one daughter, Margaret.

They spent their entire married life living in Sanborn. Jeanette died in May of 2009. Chuck died on October 21, 2011 at the age of 99 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was reunited with Jeanette just ten days short of his 100th birthday.

Chuck enjoyed keeping busy, both before and after retirement. He and Jeanette loved to travel and spend winters in Florida or Arizona. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and golfing. The church was an important part of their lives. He was a member of Sanborn Christian Reformed Church.

He was preceded in death by his bride of 72 years, Jeanette, son-in-law Erwin Bosma; three brothers, Raymond in infancy, Ed and his wife, Alice, and Tony Boone, a sister Betty and her husband, Dick Van Holland, brother-in-law Kenny Gorsett; in-laws Jake Andringa, Fred Andringa, Pete and his wife Bea Andringa, Charles and his wife, Mina Andringa.

He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Bosma of Sheldon; two sisters, Rosella Gorsett of Grand Junction, Colorado and Nelvina (Marion Sterk of Sheldon, sisters-in-law, Ida Andringa and Reka Andringa; many beloved nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held October 25 at Sanborn Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Dr. Brian Janssen officiating. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, with Military rites by Earl T. Conaway Post #318, Sanborn American Legion.

Sanborn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
