Marie Groth

Marie, nee Mulhardt, Groth, the daughter of Friederich and Eliese Muhlhardt, was born in Hamburg, Germany on July 9, 1890. She passed away at the Sibley hospital on June 11, 1970 at the age of 79 years, 11 months, and 2 days.

She came to the United States on February 14, 1925. She was united in marriage to Gustav Groth on April 15, 1928 at Hartley, Iowa. They lived on a farm five miles north of Hartley until April of 1936 when they moved to town because of Gustav's failing eyesight. She worked for many of Hartley's businessman.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Faith in Hamburg, Germany. Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters, and two brothers, and her husband, Gus.

Left to cherish her memory is a brother-in-law, Wessel Hesse of Sibley, and her nieces and nephews: Mr. and Mrs. Hans Simonsen, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hesse, all of Sibley; other relatives in Germany and her many friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 13 at the Baumgarten Funeral Home with Rev. Ao.O. Bleeke officiating.

Pallbearers were Howard Guenther, Adolf Henning, M. Joy Richard, Amos Lloyd, A.C. Hoper and Elmer Mayou.

Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley.
