William Henry Bruggom, the son of Herman and Jennie (Reekers) Bruggom, was born November 27, 1922, near Sheldon, Iowa. He received his education in rural O'Brien COunty Schools.
Bill was united in marriage to Frances Johnson on November 17, 194 in the Little Brown Church of Nashua, Iowa. The young couple made their home on a farm south of Sheldon. They farmed and lived there before moving into Sheldon in 1975. Bill continued to farm for several more years.
He passed away at the Mercy Medical ceneter in Sioux City on November 11, 2001, reaching the age of 78 years, 11 months and 15 days.
Bill was a devoted husband and father and his grandchildren were very special to him. He was a fun-loving person who enjoyed life, had a great sense of humor and always had a joke to tell. Even the young man who helped take care of him in the hospital during his last days described him as a "fun guy." He was hard working, but he always had time to lend a helping hand to others.
One of his favorite pastimes was reading the Scriptures, and his Bible could always be found next to his chair. He also enjoyed woodworking and was delighted to be involved in projecs for his family and friends.
Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sheldon.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, of Sheldon, a daughter, Laurie and her husband, Walt Pruiksma of Sheldon; and a son, Mark and his wife, Glenda of Everly, Iowa; five grandchildren; one great grandson; three sisters: Jane Bjork of Paullina, Ruth and her husband, Ray Elgersma, of Sanborn, Iowa; and a brother, Larry and his wife, Carol of Sheridan, Montana.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
