Funeral services were conducted at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Hartley on Monday morning, June 14. Father Jerome Coyle officiated and burial was made at the Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley. Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Margaret Jean Schwien, the daughter of Walter "Buzz" and Ethyl Adams Foley was born April 1, 1930, at Sanborn, Iowa. She attended school there, graduating in 1948. From there she attended the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1950. She ten taught school for five years, three in Sanborn and two in Worthington, Minnesota.
She was united in marriage to Delbert Schwien on June 11, 1955 at Sanborn. Their married life was spent living in Hartley.
She was a member of various community organizations, including 27 years in the Y'Adnom Club, during which time she had held all offices, and she was very active in the Meals On Wheels program. She was the first woman on the Board of Directors of the Community Memorial Hospital of Hartley, as well as having held all offices of the Hartley Library Board. She also served as President of the Women's Committees at Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church of Hartley.
She passed away on June 11, 1982, at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Sioux City as the result of a car accident, having reached the age of 52 years. She was preceded in death by her father.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Delbert; one son, Mike of Rochester, Minnesota; one daughter, Lynelle, at home; her mother, Mrs. Walter Foley Sr. of Sanborn; two sisters, Mrs. Ottoa (Edna Mae) Tonner of Primghar, and Mrs. Ron (Mildred) Schluter of Ida Grove; one brother, Walter Foley, Jr. of Syracuse, New York; other relatives and friends.
