SARAH MARIE WOHLERT

Sarah Marie Wohlert is the daughter of Nelda and Dennis Dickmeyer. She was born on October 30, 2004 in Storm Lake, Iowa. She entered our lives at just 3 months of age. She had a list of health issues and was in and out of the hospital for the first 12 months of her life. She celebrated her first birthday in the hospital after God blessed her with a liver transplant from a generous donor family. She was a trooper throughout, even learning how to walk with staples across her abdomen. On June 19, 2006 Sarah was officially adopted into the Wohlert family. Dennis became her father on June 15, 2008.

Sarah attended Zion St. John’s Lutheran School from preschool through 3rd grade and then attended South O’Brien Schools. She was in band and choir and enjoyed both dance and softball. She also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, boating with family and hunting with Dad. Sarah and her mom would spend long hours together canning, but she would disappear when it was time to clean! Sarah loved animals, especially her dog, Max, and her kittens, Leah, and Buster. She also loved horses and riding her favorite horse, Favre. Sarah was a lover of little children, especially the babies. (Some might even say she was a baby hog.)

Family was a major part of Sarah’s life. She was a loving daughter and relished her role as an aunt, great aunt, sister, niece, and cousin. Not many can say they held all of these roles at the age of 15! She expressed great love and affection to family and had a most tender heart. Sarah made it a point to greet guests of their home with excitement, a smile, and most definitely a hug.

She was baptized along with her parents at the Sutherland Church of Christ in 2018, and her faith continued to grow. She loved learning about Jesus in Sunday school, being a part of the church family, and participating in Faith Finders and The Well. At Camp Nebowa, Sarah found friends of faith through games and laughs.

Sarah is survived by her mother and father, her sisters Chantal (and Dale) Orthmann, Christine (and Eric) Weaver, Char (and Doug) Sweeney, Lisa (and Charlie) Larson, brother Jeremy Wohlert, and sister-in-law Renee (and Kevin) Postotnik, 18 nieces and nephews, 5 great-nieces and nephews, many aunts, uncles, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael, and a nephew.

Sarah went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, October 21, surrounded by her parents, siblings, and some close and loving family. Sarah was a blessing to our lives for 15 years. Although we feel that our time with her was too short, we know this is part of God’s greater plan. We take comfort in the fact that she is now dancing with Jesus, and soon we will all be reunited.
