HARTLEY, Iowa -- August Gerhardt Kamradt, 88, of Hartley died Monday, May 6, 2002, at Riverview Terrace in Spencer, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, with the Rev. Dave Ericksen officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Warner Funeral Home in Hartley.

August Gerhardt Kamradt, the son of Herman and Gesina (Von Hagel) Kamradt, was born Sept. 15, 1913, in Merrill, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Merrill, where he received his education. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Johnson Township near Merrill. His family moved to Sutherland, Iowa, when he was a young man. He attended church at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal, Iowa.

August married Anita Miller on Dec. 31, 1935, at his father's farm near Sutherland. Following the marriage, he continued to farm in the Sutherland, Royal and Moneta, Iowa areas for most of his adult life. They moved to Moneta in 1950 and in 1976, they moved to the Hartley community. They spent their winters in Texas for 25 years. In May 1999, they moved to the Riverview Terrace Facility in Spencer.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Anita of Spencer; three children and their spouses, Shirley and Bob Frembgen of Hastings, Minn., Dick and Karen Kamradt of rural Primghar, Iowa, and Herman and Candy Kamradt of Spencer; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bertha Nelson of St. Peter, Minn., Emma Larson and Martha Kamradt, both of Madelia, Minn.; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Pauline; a brother, Emil; a sister, Leona Griffiths; and a grandson, Steve Kamradt.

Pallbearers will be Rick, Ryan and Dan Frembgen and Mike, Cary and Brad Kamradt. Honorary pallbearers will be Cindy Seleski, Deb Shandley, Dawn Biedenfeld, Sheila Tatman, Lori Barnes and Jamie Hagedorn.
