Ener Skaar Dies Friday
Long Time Resident of Gaza Community Answers Last Call.

Ener Skaar, highly respected citizen and long time resident of this community passed away Friday night, following an illness of long duration, having been an invalid for many months, the result of a paralytic stroke. He leaves to mourn his death his wife, four sons, and three daughters besides a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the home and at the Norwegian church in Paullina, where interment was made. An Obituary will be published next week.

Ener Skaar was born June 18, 1859 in Norway, and died at his home near Gaze, February 7, 1930, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 19 days.

He came to Marshall county, Iowa, in the year 1881, at the age of 22 years. On October 11, 1996, he was united in marriage with Bertha Bjorem, later moved to O'Brien county in 1888, and engaged in farming. In 1902 he moved to his farm near Gaza.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in which church he was a faithful member, helping to organize the Siloam Lutheran Church at Paullina.

He is survived by his wife, four sons, Jacob, Swen, Ben and Chester, and three daughters, Susie, Alice now Mrs. Hagen, Gertie, now Mrs. Leng, and thirteen grandchildren, all of whom live in this vicinity. He is also survived by five brothers, Ole, of Superior, Wisconsin, Assens of Moose Lake, Minnesota, and Swen, Omond and Cornelius, of Norway.

He had three sisters, two died in infancy and Mrs. Andrew Melling passed away here, April 5, 1900.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday afternoon at the home and at the Siloam Lutheran church at Paullina, by Rev. Wangberg, singing by Theo and Norman Barkve with Mrs. Theo Barkve at the piano. Interment was made at Prairie View Cemetery.

Those who attended from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Ole Gjerde, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Barkve and baby, Norman Barkve, Lars Naig, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Meling, Mr. and Mrs. Thor Hagen, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Meling and son Truman, Ben Meling, Bertel Naig, Thor Naig, Adolph Helland. Joe Land, Mr. and Mrs. Alber Mitchell and daughter Anna Marie, all of Cylinder, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. John Vought, Chestie Moen and Henry Bjoren of Humboldt, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Amdahl of Holmes, Iowa, Sam Sampson of Norway, Iowa; Mrs. Oscar Idso of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; S.D. Jacobson of LeMars, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Johnson and Joe Johnson of Mount Vernon, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. John Leng of Truman, Minnesota; Mrs. Ole Johnson of Ormsby, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Jake Meling and daughters Mynre and Wyona, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Meling and daughter Betty June and Swen Meling of Pipestone, Minnesota.
