Jessie Pearl (Stearns) Wilson (1889-1960)

Jessie Pearl Stearns, daughter of Charles and Josephine Stearns, was born January 10, 1889, on a farm just north of the Covey Church in Grant township, O'Brien County, Iowa. She attended a school near her home. She was the youngest of five children. As a young girl, she helped care for her invalid mother for several years.

On September 13, 1908 she was united in marriage with Lew Wilson in the Methodist Church at Sutherland, Iowa. The greater part of their married life was spent on their farm south of town.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were privileged to have all their living children present when they observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary on September 13, 1958 at the Methodist Church in Hartley.

Jessie Stearns Wilson died January 30, 1960, at the age of 71 years and 20 days.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Lew Wilson; one son, Wayne of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three daughters, Ruby I. Nelson of Arlington, California; (Maxine) Mrs. C.E. Rector of Spooner, Wisconsin; and (Neva) Mrs. Kenneth Holmes of San Gabriel, California. One son, Rex, passed away on May 24, 1951. There are also 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother, Alfred of Edmore, North Dakota; one sister, Irene Upton of Milford, Iowa; three sisters-in-law; one borther-in-law; several nephews and nieces and many friends and neighbors.

She was a Charter Member of the Farm Bureau Women's Club which was organized in her home.

Early in life, Jessie joined the Covey Methodist Church. Later, she transferred to the Hartley Methodist Church, which she attended regularly as long as she was able to do so. After that she received great joy from her radio listening to church services and sacred songs over KICD. She always looked forward to the visits of her minister, and to those of the ladies of the Prayer Group and other women of the church. She taught her children the true meaning of the Christian life which se exemplified in the way she kept her spirit on such a high level during those many trying years.

Mrs. Wilson was a good wife and mother, a true friend and neighbor, and a sincere Christian. She was happy in the daily routine of her home life and cherished the welfare of her family. The memory of her good life will be a comfort to her loved ones.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Methodist church by her pastor, the Reverend Raymond A. Roloff. Interment was made in Pleasant View Cemetery.
