Garland F. Steinbeck (1918-1999)

Garland F. Steinbeck, the son of John and Myrtle (Williams) Steinbeck, was born near Hartley, Iowa, on March 18, 1918. His childhood years were spent in O'Brien County where he received his education.

Garland was united in marriage to Ann Oostenbrug on August 26, 1946 at Primghar, Iowa, and to this union, four children were born. Following their marriage, they began farming near Moneta before moving to their current farm in 1950.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing golf. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley and an associate member of the Gulf Cove United Methodist Church at Englewood, Florida.

Garland became a resident of the Primghar Care Center on October 9, 1998, and he died there on May 26, 1999, at the age of 81 years, one month and 28 days.

He is survived by his wife, Anne of Hartley; his children: Gary of Hartley, Rebecca of Batavia, Illinois, and eleven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Funeral services wee held on Saturday, May 29, 1999 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery of Hartley, with Hartley Sanborn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
